About Minority Nations

Foreword to the Essay Project

It is great honour in case somebody of You, the beloved citizens of the Planet Earth, have made a decision to cast a glance over the writing, which describes a very small, but unique nation’s culture area, where the undersigned locates himself together with his family. This province of several cultures, which seems to be attached to Europe only because of geopolitical considerations. The Holy See evaluated this rarity in 1201 anno Domini, blessing this province which is one part of the Baltic’s mainly together with Estonians and Latvians to God’s Mother, Holy Virgin Mary. In the same year bishop Albert of Riga moved Conventus Terra Mariana from Üksküla to the Dome Church of Riga.

The aborigines have always been here the main nation, they have been and are now and have been during all colonial periods in numerous majorities. It was only in the 2nd half of the XX century that the Russian-speaking alleys’ number increased to one third of the population.

Me and my family have a good command of the local language and now we are citizens of a one more new state here. But we still feel to belong to local minority nations.

My meditation, which I dare to call essay, only because I esteem these many nationalities who live and have lived in the Holy Terra Mariana, to whom I would like to dedicate this writing and, of-course, to calm down my beloved wife, who is the co-author of my meditation as the muse and who inspires me like a good example to write about her family, who have had to live around the world for more than 2000 years as aliens. Namely, her Wolsky grandparents – look nationality Volski – belonged to the tribe alley Italics, who integrated to the Roman Empire in 338 B.C. Some centuries later they migrated through Central Europe to Belgian Gallia together with Julius Caesar (see nowadays the Netherlands). With the tribe alley of Vallons they reached the Polish territory, where a young Roman origin forefather, wearing the Elita Coat of Arms, with the name Florianus Carius, got vast land possessions in nowadays Kuramaa from the king Loktiek thanks to the bravery shown up in the battles in 1331.a.D. Due to the changes of the borders the land possessions of the Wolsky family remained on the territory of the Russian Tsarist Empire.

Several Tsars have personally been Godfathers of baby-Wolsky’s. Thanks to the honour of the Godfathers tens of generals of the Tsar army grew up in the Wolsky family, who were active in the field of charity during peace times – they founded educational institutions, etc. In the civil service there was one Mayor of Riga, whose son became the General Governor of Orenburg.

My holy duty is to confirm, that all these 2000 years lived abroad do not show any signs of repression on the face of this family.

And the Soviet time did not leave any signs of anger on their faces. Without any Communist Party or repressive organisations membership – the gene memory understands the elemental forces of the epochs in the time without time.

The new moment in the eternity presents new challenges to local aborigines.

The native people of the Holy Terra Mariana with their 800-year-long-alley experience were taken into the family again after a short widow period.

Ca 1/3 of the Russian-speaking members of the former family start to come over their grief – just the opposite, nostalgic tones are heard from the side of natives. The integration of such a great numbers of former and new suitors on such a small piece of land is clearly too difficult for the natives. Fortunately, the former alleys integrate with new alleys on their own – then the life of natives will be carefree as before.

In belief, that You meditate with me and in hope that it makes us enriched together,

Yours Ioan Arendia Elita von Wolsky

P.S. Always ready for discussions and criticism, but request further articles, so that out of the meditations of my kin forms an essay dedicated to those numerous nationalities who have lived and live nowadays here in the Holy Terra Mariana.
